As children we are products of our the conscious and subconscious messages from our parents and household environment. Whether you were loved, ignored, used or abused your mind plays it out in your daily agendas. Politics of the day, and the country you live in all shape how you live in your mind.
So this mind begins to play all the comparisons in life; such as, this is good this is bad, They are rich or they are poor, that person is pretty and that one is not, that group is smart, the other one is stupid and so on. You can live your life with your mind locked up in this play. In Kundalini Yoga we call it "Duality".
You can live your whole life with a war going on in your head or you can learn to meditate. When you meditate you elevate. You can lift yourself out of all your mental dramas and subconscious tramas by simply learning to meditate.
Meditation is not just closing your eyes and checking out. It is a process you can begin by learning how to control your breath. Later you can use mudras (hand positions) and mantras.(sound current you make that changes the patterns in your mind.)
The first thing you will encounter of course when you meditate is your mind. But don't worry that your mind will continue to chatter. Eventually the meditation will take hold and you will begin the process of "defragging" your mind. This takes time and especially patience.
You can learn how to meditate by using any of the techniques in Kundalini yoga manuals and books.(see links page) Or come to class.
Here is a meditation you can do to learn how to control your breath:

It is called the one minute breath.
Sit with a straight spine on a chair with feet flat on the floor or the floor. Or sit cross legged on the floor. ( a straight spine helps clear your energy channels you you can focus)
Also keep your chin level to the floor, but slightly pulled. I have seen pictures of people supposedly meditating with their head looking up, don't do that.
Gently close your eyes and turn them upwards to a spot between the eyebrows.
Keep the breath through the nose only. I know you like to do that breath you learned at the gym ,but it won't work here. If your nose is clogged because you only breathe through your mouth, don't worry, with patience you can re train yourself.

Now begin to inhale slowly (you may use a watch at first) 20 seconds
Hold the breath, 20 seconds (try to keep your throat relaxed)
Exhale, 20 seconds
Start out with 10 to 15 seconds each, then increase to 20
You should not feel dizzy or faint.
.
Try this for three minutes ( three breaths)

False Identity Depression

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2011/01/false-identity-depression.html

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2011/01/false-identity-depression.html#comments

Uncategorized

This is the year to be you. But, do you know who you are? How can you know where you are going if you don't relate to who you are in your very essence of your deep self. The last few years have been a prelude to what is coming. As yogis, we know that these are the years of the shift form the Picean age to the Aquarian age. So everything as we have known or thought to be real is cha [...]

This is the year to be you. But, do you know who you are? How can you know where you are going if you don't relate to who you are in your very essence of your deep self.
The last few years have been a prelude to what is coming. As yogis, we know that these are the years of the shift form the Picean age to the Aquarian age. So everything as we have known or thought to be real is challenged. There is an Economic shift, large corporations have folded, jobs are going, and many who depended on their wealth status and career identity have been brought to "Shunia" which is what we call nothing or zero point.
So out of the darkest of the dark comes the comes the light. We call that gur( dark) ru (light) Guru is the knowledge, the wisdom of the ages that is all prevailing, has been throughout all time and is here now. For one to come out of their darkness, or depression, they have to go into the essence of their deepest self and within that there is the knowledge. This knowledge is not based on what we call duality.
Duality is the negative and positive, the black and the white, all the comparisons that we make in our mind. The last age is based on this. The fish chasing the fish, and the dog eat dog mentality and climb to the top no matter what attitudes will no longer work.
   So...who are you?
Here is a meditation you can try: Sit with a straight spine on the floor cross legged or on a chair with both feet on the floor and your spine straight. Close your eyes and go inside. If you can do that you have hope for the next part.
The mantra is" I am not______". You may start with how you look, your physical condition ,your race, your financial status, your career, your titles, etc. Eventually you will get to "I am" Start with three minutes, then eleven minutes. See how many layers you can peel of until you are at your deepest self. Enjoy!
Let me know how it works for you.

Wierd and Creepy Kundalini Experiences

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/11/wierd-and-creepy-kundalini-experiences.html

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/11/wierd-and-creepy-kundalini-experiences.html#comments

Uncategorized

In the thirty four years I have been practicing and teaching Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan I have never seen or experienced any of the negative "Kundalini Experiences" here on the internet. There are sites or blogs that talk about negative physical and mental effects related to Kundalini rising.
I am not saying that these things don't happen to people, but one must understand that this is do to gross mis-practice. All Kundalini yoga sets were formulated by and taught though the "Golden chain of Kundalini Yoga Masters. The last one being Yogi Bhajan. People who have had these negative experience often do so because they change the Kundalini Yoga Sets.
I received my teacher training in the 1970's in the ashram system and studied with Yogi Bhajan twice a week. We had many posture clinics to learn proper form and breathing, and the scrutiny of other teachers. Yogi Bhajan was very concerned that the teachings had to be pure. We were told how to breathe when to breath and to maintain an accurate posture.
Kundalini Yoga is not complicated it just has to be very precise. So in your research look for a Kundalini yoga teacher that does not mix other styles of yoga with it, watches the class to insure proper form and does not claim to be a tantric master or practice red or black tantric. They should not encourage students to practice advanced kryias without proper preparation of the nervous system and good form.
When choosing DVD's make sure that the teacher is IKYTA certified and the DVD is KRI (Kundalini research Institute) certified.
There are many Kundalini Yoga books and manuals available, however one should consult with an IKYTA certified teacher to make sure they are practicing right.
Kundalini yoga when practiced correctly and safely can be a wonderful uplifting and healthy experience.

Don't block your intuition

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/09/dont-block-your-intuition.html

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/09/dont-block-your-intuition.html#comments

Uncategorized

   Intuition is your natural human instinct.   For one to live stress free in a stressful world one must " Obey, Serve , Excel"  with their intuition. They are;
lust, anger, greed, pride and attachment. One can wallow in any of these or all of
them for their entire lives .
A person can live for lust and try everything and everyone. Their lives are shallow and they never touch their own depth. Lust is a major block to developing intuition.

One can live in anger their entire lives and not know it. They are like powder kegs, the slightest thing can set them off. They are so blinded that they will never hear or
see the subtle signs of intuition.

One can spend their entire life in Greed. Accumulating, hoarding,
and basing their lives on" He who has the most wins" Their life becomes a
conquest of aquiering worldly goods instead of loving life and having gratitude.

Others engage in foolish pride. They are so full of themselves that they stop learning , growing and expanding their awareness.

One can have attachment to the past or fantasy about the future and miss
the present. They can morn a person who has left or something that did not
happen for them. Their intuition becomes dormant as they recede into a depression.

In Kundalini Yoga we have a wonderful meditation called "Kirtan Kryia" or
SA- Ta- Na- Ma meditation. This meditation clears the mind of all the garbage
created by lust, anger, greed, pride and attachment.
Practice it 40 days for 31 minutes. You will notice a difference.
You can get a CD from spiritvoyage .com or a book from Yogatechnology.com
or learn it from an IKYTA Kundalini Yoga Teacher
For more information about this meditation see:
http://www.spiritvoyage.com/meditation/Kirtan-Kriya/MED-000035.aspx

You can be the master of your own mind

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/05/you-can-be-the-master-of-your-own-mind.html

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/05/you-can-be-the-master-of-your-own-mind.html#comments

Uncategorized

Many people feel that they have have no self control or they can't help it when they have thoughts that they act on. As Kundalini yogis we know that if you can conquer the mind you can conquer anything. You can take an unfocused monkey mind and actually train it. Now I am not talking about dog training here. I am talking about training your own mind with self discipline . Discipline actually means to become a disciple of your highest self. Many people balk at he word discipline because it has a feeling of someone else controling you. When you are in control of your mind you are not controlled by anyone.
When you learn to meditate you don't have to look outside for self discipline.
Kundalini Yoga meditations are based on ancient technology .
There are meditation techniques you can practice to conquer addictions, overcome depression, to deal with emotional pain in your life or to learn how to concentrate so you can study better. There are thousands of techniques that Kundalini yoga has to offer that you can draw on when you need it.
You can come to class to learn them best or you can order a meditation manual from Yogatech.com or spiritvoyage.com. It is always best if you can to learn a Kundalini yoga meditation from a teacher who learned it directly from Yogi Bhajan or has practiced it for many years. I was very fortunate to do this.
You can practice the meditation once , and it will feel great, but if you truly want to get the benefits it is best to practice it at least 40 days. As my friend Allison puts it... " Repetition, routine , reward. " Or in Kundalini Yoga we say create a Sadhana(daily practice) become Aradana(you become that practice), Prabhupati ( you master it)

How focused are you?

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/05/how-focused-are-you.html

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/05/how-focused-are-you.html#comments

Uncategorized

In our western culture we are moody, trendy, we compare, we measure, but do we really experience? Our society offers endless forms of yoga classes . There is yoga for perfect alignment and form, "hot" sauna room temperature yoga classes, yoga for building muscles, yoga holding difficult postures and yoga for wimps. And what do you get? Nothing.
Kundalini yoga gives you the ability to focus. When the focus is strong and you persevere, then you reap the benefits- like a calm mind, a body that feels strong and flexible, happiness and a deeper spiritual serenity.
With conscious breath techniques, posture (asana) movement and mental focus, you can heighten your ability to be totally conscious and aware of what is what. You'll experience living in the "now" tasting life and loving life. It teaches you how to overcome obstacles, go beyond your limitations and tap into your own powerful human potential.
One can remain in status quo for years, or they can wait for things to get bad and then wake up. It is only by making a conscious decision to start a Kundalini yoga practice and not waiting for a magical time like losing weight, finishing school, or cleaning your house. Now is a good time to focus.

Using Kundalini Yoga to enhance your flow of Creativity

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/04/using-kundalini-yoga-to-enhance-your-flow-of-creativity.html

http://www.kundaliniyogaforall.org/1/post/2010/04/using-kundalini-yoga-to-enhance-your-flow-of-creativity.html#comments

Uncategorized

Spring time is a time for cultivating our creativity and prosperity.
