Kundalini Yoga For Everyone

 
 
Many people feel that they have have no self control or they can't help it when they have thoughts that they act on.  As Kundalini yogis we know that if you can conquer the mind you can conquer anything.   You can  take an unfocused monkey mind and actually train it. Now I am not talking about dog training here.  I am talking about training your own mind with self discipline .  Discipline actually means to become a disciple  of your highest self. Many people balk at he word discipline because it has a feeling of someone else controling you. When you are in control of your mind you are not controlled by anyone.
When you learn to meditate you don't have to look outside for self discipline.
   Kundalini Yoga meditations are based on ancient technology .
   There are meditation  techniques you can practice to conquer addictions, overcome depression, to deal with emotional pain in your life or to learn how to concentrate so you can study better. There are thousands of techniques that Kundalini yoga has to offer that you can draw on when you need it.
   You can come to class to learn them best or you can order a meditation manual from  Yogatech.com or spiritvoyage.com.  It is always best if you can to learn a Kundalini yoga meditation from  a teacher who learned it directly from Yogi Bhajan or has practiced it for many years.  I was very fortunate to do this.
    You can practice the meditation once , and it will feel great,  but if you truly want to get the benefits it is best to practice it at least 40 days.   As my friend Allison puts it... " Repetition, routine , reward. "   Or in Kundalini Yoga we say  create a Sadhana(daily practice) become Aradana(you become that practice), Prabhupati ( you master it)
 
 
  In our western culture we are moody, trendy, we compare, we measure, but do we really experience?
  Our society offers endless forms of yoga classes .   There is yoga for perfect alignment and form, "hot" sauna room temperature yoga classes, yoga for building muscles, yoga holding difficult postures and yoga for wimps. The list is ever-growing concoction of everything imaginable.
   You can try them all .  You can practice a different kind of yoga every day or mix them all together. And what do you get? Nothing.
   Kundalini yoga gives you the ability to focus. When the focus is strong and you persevere, then you reap the benefits- like a calm mind, a body that feels strong and flexible, happiness and a deeper spiritual serenity.
   With conscious breath techniques, posture (asana) movement and mental focus, you can heighten your ability to be totally conscious and aware of what is what. You'll experience living in the "now" tasting life and loving life. It teaches you how to overcome obstacles, go beyond your limitations and tap into your own powerful human potential.
  One can remain in status quo for years, or they can wait for things to get bad and then wake up. It is only by making a conscious decision to start a Kundalini yoga practice and not waiting for  a magical time like losing weight, finishing school, or cleaning your house. Now is a good time to focus.
  
 
 
 
 Spring time is a time for cultivating our creativity and prosperity. Part of our morning practice is a meditation we often call "Morning call"  We practice it at sunrise when the day is quiet.   The Mantra is: Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Whahe Guru and  chanted like a human conch. See Spiritvoyage.com for the correct sound current.   I often have some of my best ideas come to me during this meditation. 
 If you practice it for 40 days you will notice a difference in your creative outlook on life.  Ideas can flow quickly, so it is good to have plan.  Keep the energy flowing by sharing it with others .  Your good ideas can lead to prosperity if you promote them.  So sharing  is all part of the creative flow and share your finished products with the world.
 
 
  When the sun is is 60 degrees or at sunset, the two  week points of the day, negativity may control the mind. In the evening you may may feel lonely and or restless. Many negative acts happen at this time. 
   If you watch TV at this time you get spaced out, it takes away your energy and then it is difficult to wake up the next day.
   Evening is the time for happiness and elevated human relationship. Avoid any situation that can bring you down.
  When you come to a Kundalini Yoga class at that time, you will be in the company of those who are working on themselves  and enjoying the benefits of Kundalini yoga.  Each class ends with  happiness and a feeling that you accomplished something for yourself. You feel a great wisdom within and  that joy in the company  you are with.

  Today I  spent the morning cleaning my  meditation space in my home.  Because it is in my sun room attached to house it gets pretty dusty.  It is important to have a quiet place or corner in your home where you can do some yoga and meditation to clear out the dust in your mind and stretch your body. This place suits me well because it faces the east so I can watch the sunrise in the early morning while I do my yoga.
     If you come to yoga class you have the opportunity to  practice with others  and
feel really great after the class. On the days when there is no class you can practice in your meditation space to keep the flow going between classes. 
   I know someone who has their mediation space in the garage. They partitioned their garage so that there is a separate room that they get to from the garden.  You could even have  a meditation room in your garden for warm part of the year.   I know someone else that had a large closet that they had ventilated  and had climate controls installed as well as a sound system.. Now that can be extravagant.. But I think you get my point.  You can have a space somewhere.
